To protect, restore, honor and advocate for Asheville’s and Buncombe County’s urban forest and community tree canopy.
VISION STATEMENT: By 2050, Asheville will have achieved a tree canopy of 50% and growing. Buncombe County’s neighborhoods, forests, parks and streets are full of healthy, mature trees. The Tree Protection Task Force’s work extends to all of Buncombe County for current and future generations.
The Tree Protection Task Force recognizes the urgent need to:
- Protect and Restore the size and health of Asheville’s tree canopy
- Listen to all neighborhoods, all ages and all races, that they may have access to trees and green space,
- Educate the government officials and the neighborhoods,
- Outreach to communities, schools and churches,
- Advocate for the value of trees to our economic, environmental and physical and mental health
- Prioritize the planting of native trees to replace any trees that have been removed due to disease or development (or disaster)
- Mobilize with calls to action
